Jeremy Jones is synonymous with big mountain and backcountry snowboarding and among many other titles has been elected “Big Mountain Rider of the Year" by Snowboarder Magazine no less than nine times! Anytime you mention his name to other pros or influencers in the action sports industry, you get the same response and respect. Jeremy’s influence on the sport is hardly limited to riding the most technical lines around the globe. Jones is founder and CEO of the non-profit Protect Our Winters, uniting the winter sports community in a fight to slow global warming. In 2010, he launched Jones Snowboards to further progress the growing backcountry and splitboard scene that he has revolutionized.

Mostly Non-Fiction. Extreme Alpinism, Snow Leopard, and Outliers are the last 3 books I have read.

New mountains or new waves
What is your favorite city to visit and why?
San Francisco. I love surfing Ocean Beach when it’s blowing off shore and the people seem down to earth

At home or the beach with my family

1983
Why did you start snowboarding?
From early on I was hooked on the sideways sports of surfing and skateboarding. I liked skiing but it was not until snowboarding came along that I was so obsessed with riding that I would ride first chair to last chair chance I got
Why do you ride?
Snowboarding gives me wings and makes me feel like I am flying. It takes me to a different world and is my best outlet for creative expression
Best part of Snowboarding?
The first couple seconds when I drop into a line. I go from the stationary world to one of floating down the mountain and the wind in my face
Hardest part?
Putting cold frozen boots on at 3 in the morning to go walk into dark scary world and climb a mountain
Weakness?
Away from the mountains I can be very unorganized and not present
Most important people in your life and career?
My family gives me the energy and support to do what I do
Worst moment in career?
Driving to the airport to go to Alaska for 3 weeks the morning after Shane McConkey’s funeral
Best moment in career?
The few times in my life where my snowboard has taken me to a different world. We call it the White Moment
General career goals?
To find inspiring unridden mountains and safely and properly snowboard down them
Year 2011 Highlights?
Experiencing an 800-inch winter in my home mountain range the Sierra. And exploring unridden lines on an island 700 miles from the North Pole

Advice to beginners?
The difference between them and I is time on the hill. So go snowboarding and enjoy the process. Every stage is a blast so do not rush the progression. The best snowboarder is the one having the most fun. If you get into the backcountry then get educated in proper backcountry protocol
Training "secret"?
Time in the mountains. There are few people in this world that has spent as much time as me tracking down and riding steep lines

Probably a mountain guide
