POC skiers Aurélien Ducroz and PY Leblanc in the Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships, Riksgränsen (4/25/2007)

Arranged annually since 1992, the Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships is the oldest free ride competition in the world. Hosting ski area for the event, taking place May 14-16, is the small resort of Riksgränsen, located above the Arctic Circle on the border between Sweden and Norway. The SBMC is not only a race for glory and prize money. It is also the grand finale of the European free ride season with midnight sun skiing and partying in a relaxed atmosphere.

Six POC Big Mountain team riders will compete in the SBMC. We are particularly proud to welcome Aurélien Ducroz (FRA) and Pierre-Yves "PY" Leblanc (CAN) to this predominately Scandinavian event. Their participation has been made possible through our collaboration with Swiss International Air Lines.

The POC Big Mountain skiers have shown excellent form this season with for example Kaj Zackrisson winning the Swatch O'Neil Big Mountain Pro 2007, Aurélien winning the Subaru U.S. Free skiing Nationals and Per Huss placing second in the Rordal Free Ride competition.

"It is so exciting that we have managed to lure Aurélien and PY all the way to Riksgränsen. This is home turf for Kaj, Sverre, Karolina Ekman and myself, but we never get tired of skiing in this mesmerizing land of the midnight sun and although we look forward to kicking some ass in the competition we are also proud to share this unique setting with our over seas team mates" says Per Huss, POC Big Mountain Team Captain.
