The Prize of Prizes – a very special prize
The German Design Council, commissioned by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology, organises the Design Award annually for businesses and designers whose contributions are marked by a high level of design quality, utility, ecological quality and innovation. Entry is restricted to products which, over the last five years, have been awarded a prize for their design, either nationally or internationally. They are proposed for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany by the German Minister of Economics or by the ministers and senators for economics of the individual German states. Among the many awards well established in Germany, the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, due to its strict requirements, is regarded as the "prize of prizes".

The Jury
An independent jury of ten experts selects the winners of the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. The jury is made up of representatives from industry, the universities, the design world and the media. The jury is appointed by the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology for a period of four years.
