Biomimetics is the science of adapting biological structures and functions, evolved and perfected over millions of years of natural selection, to the purposes of engineering. It brings together many different disciplines – including physics, chemistry, physiology, materials science and mechanics – with the aim of developing novel products, materials and technologies.
Of all body forms in the animal kingdom the beetle is the most strikingly successful, with over 350,000 known species. Its hard but flexible external skeleton provides armored protection for vital organs while allowing free movement. It is natural, therefore, that we have chosen the beetle as our symbol and the inspiration for our work. This amazing insect is the perfect metaphor for the combination of protection and freedom that our products provide.
