The office is sprawling. We just got the information. POC has been awarded Design+ "on the occasion of Material Vision 2007", for the Synapsis helmet, by the German Design Council. The Synapsis helmet, is an in-mold helmet using POC's patent pending; anti penetration barrier - ABP. The challenge was to make an extremely light helmet certified according to European helmet standards. What is extra challenging is withstanding penetration. But thanks to a layer of Aramid placed underneath a thin polycarbonate shell, before injecting the shock absorbing EPS, we succeeded. It's a development emerging from our semi hard shell racing helmets, using the same concept. However, this time the industrial obstacles were much more challenging. "The Synapsis helmet is a true result on how we, at POC, can learn from racing products, used by international top athletes and to incorporate them into consumer products" says Stefan Ytterborn, CEO POC.
